LANCASTER, OH – Tuesday night, employees at the Crown Cork & Seal Co plant, on Mill Park Drive, put out a fire in an overhead furnace.

According to Lancaster Fire Department Capt. K.J. Watts, the fire started after the plant lost power for about four hours. When the power was restored an overhead furnace caught fire, which was subsequently put out by employees armed with fire extinguishers.

The call came into the fire department at 7:08 p.m. When they arrived the fire was out, with no visible flames, although smoke was in the area.

The only damage was contained to the furnace.
