Around 9:00 PM a local community college student in Wilkes-Barre was leaving her night class en route to her car. Just as she was about to enter the vehicle and leave the downtown area, flames started to escape from underneath the hood. Luckily, members of the international volunteer group, the Guardian Angels, were there and able to act quickly and extinguish the fire. Known for their red berets and uniforms, this chapter of the Guardian Angels started its patrol of the area only a short time before the incident. A security officer also noticed the fire and helped by supplying the Guardian Angels with a portable fire extinguisher, containing the fire, and eventually extinguishing it. One of the volunteers said, “It reminds you why you are out here doing this stuff…[the car] would have been engulfed by the time the fire department got here”. The victim of the fire was incredibly thankful to the volunteers and their quick response saying, “They are good people”.Source: Kalinowski, Bob. "Guardian Angels Extinguish Car Fire in W-B." - News.
