Fast action by Indiana State Police troopers saved a Clay County home threatened by a shed fire late Sunday and extinguished an unrelated grass fire early Monday along Interstate 70 in Putnam County.
Troopers Todd Brown, David Petrowski, James Crisp, and Kyle Hall responded to the structure fire where they found a shed fully engulfed, with flames spreading through the grass toward a home. Checking for occupants first, they then summoned firefighters before using their fire extinguishers to keep the fire from spreading to the home. Posey Township firefighters arrived a short time later and extinguished the shed and grass fire.
Some hours later, troopers Crisp and Kyle responded to a grass fire in the median of eastbound I-70, near the 48-mile marker in eastern Putnam County. Again, they used their fire extinguishers to put out the blaze before firefighters were needed.
