COLUMBIA, TN – An employee of Rippey’s Auto Parts used a fire extinguisher to fight a fire started by a bolt of lightning from a passing thunder storm. “His quick actions to grab a fire extinguisher and knock down the fire led to saving that building,” said Interim Fire Chief Cobb. “When we got on the scene, handled the rest, and there was minimal damage for what could have happened.” The fire started in the basement electrical box and was contained to electrical damage only. “The response, in this incident, is the reason fire extinguishers are in the city code,” said Cobb.
