PHOENIX, OR - A local man helped put out a fire and rescue his neighbor after a smoldering cigarette ignited the elderly woman's mattress. After hearing the fire alarm, neighbors rushed to the scene with a fire extinguisher and managed to put out the flames. Firefighters arrived quickly on the scene but the fast acting neighbors had already extinguished the fire, avoiding a potentially tragic outcome according to the town's fire chief. No one was hurt in the blaze and fire damage was minimal.
