The quick actions of one man saved the Grays Harbor Equipment Co. from major damage to their warehouse from a fire that was initiated by a propane burning torch. John Perry, an employee, used a fire extinguisher to try and contain the fire after hearing noises in the warehouse and surveying the scene. Once firemen arrived on the premises, they were able to completely extinguish the fire. Aberdeen Battalion Chief, Troy Palmer, remarked on the actions of this decisive and concerned employee. “The quick thinking to use the fire extinguisher made all the difference in minimizing damage to the business, and his efforts were commendable…This fire is a perfect example of why working fire extinguishers are required in all businesses, and that businesses ensure that their employees are properly trained in how to use them.” Perry’s work in helping extinguish the fire greatly helped minimize damages, which are estimated at roughly $1,000.
