Extinguisher Toting Maintenance Man Saves The Day

DOVER, Del. – A quick-thinking maintenance man no doubt saved a number of lives when he put out a fire at a local apartment complex.

About 1:30 pm, on Wednesday afternoon, a fire started at the Persimmon Tree Apartments, with the Dover Police, Fire, and EMS all responding to the scene.

Upon arrival, first responders evacuated the complex, but are crediting the safety of all tenants to the quick actions of the complex's maintenance man, who used a fire extinguisher to take matters into his own hands.

Dover Fire Department's Deputy Chief Michael O’Connor said, “There was four children in the room adjacent to where the fire was, and we put them inside of an ambulance to keep them warm, but nobody was injured.”

This is another fine example of the importance of fire extinguishers as well as knowing where they are and how to use them.

As for the incident, the Fire Marshal’s office is investigating how the fire started in the first place.
